Effective Leadership Situation at General Electric
CEO W demonstrated effective leadership when he became the CEO of General Electric before retiring in 2001. During his tenure at the company, he increased its value by 4000% (Severson, 2017). In this situation, he realized that to be an effective leader he needed to cast a future vision as well as motivate his subordinates in an attempt to achieve the vision. As a result, he shared his vision of raising the profits of the company from $1.5 billion to $15 billion.
Collaboration
He established the aspect of effective leadership. He established transparency, credit, and trustworthiness among his subordinates. he acted as an example to his work teams as he demonstrated transparency in everything that he carried out. As a matter of fact, he chose generous leaders to work with him; these leaders were happy and determined to enable other employees to be successful. Therefore, he believed that collaboration was the only way to achieve his vision at General Electric. He embraced collaboration since it helps in overcoming difficult challenges (Northouse, 2015).
Internal and external environments
In this situation, it is clear that he involved external and internal forces to achieve his vision and become an effective leader. As far as he was concerned reorganizing the company, he was concerned with the global marketing strategy of the company. Internally, he transformed the company into a flexible organization in order to embrace change (Bolman & Gallos, 2011). Externally, he established a competitive company. Thus, he welcomed good ideas from his teammates since he knew that change creates opportunities.
