RESEARCH TOPIC: SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING /BEHAVIOR

This assignment will consist of at least one full page of your topic choice, why you chose this topic, and at least one peer reviewed article that supports your topic and one that does not support your topic. Peer review means that a board of scholarly reviewers in the subject area of the journal, review materials they publish for quality of research and adherence to editorial standards of the journal, before articles are accepted for publication. If you use materials from peer-reviewed publications, they have been vetted by scholars in your field for quality and importance.  Each article must be labeled supportive and non-supportive. I will suggest ideas for you to use on your final paper on the final page of this assignment. You must have an approved topic via email from me by March 30th, 2021 to receive any credit. APA format must include a title page, abstract, body of the critique, and a reference page. Please see the APA guide that is included in each module for guidelines of what is expected.

Here I have included why I chose this topic. Feel free to redo as you see fit. 

Upon doing my research on social and emotional behavior, I came across the definition that goes as follows; social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. As I have been teaching the 7th grade, I have noticed all the different characteristics of social and emotional learning. As 7th graders they have many mixed emotions, parents are absent in their lives, friendships come and go, be able to be aware of their actions, and loving their self is all apart of being a 7th grader. It gets tough.  Self-awareness , like identifying emotions, recognizing strengths and needs, and developing a growth mindset

Self-management, like managing emotions, controlling impulses, and setting goals

Social awareness, like seeing things from other people’s perspective, showing empathy , and appreciating diversity

Relationship skills, like communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution

Responsible decision-making, including thinking about the consequences of personal behavior
