Mvc reflection essay #5–adolescence & emerging adulthood

You will respond to 1 of the 3 questions/prompts provided.  It is expected that you will have raised your child through the MVC online platform to be 18 years, 1 mo (i.e., the end of the MVC program) prior to completing these reflections & you will use information from this simulation as well as the course (e.g., readings, lectures, discussions) in your responses.  It is anticipated that your responses will be between 1-2 pages.

  1. Based on your child’s cognitive abilities, psychological adjustment, and plans for the next two years, think about what your child might be like two years after the program ends, at age 20.  What careers might your child be interested in and why?  How do you think your child will have adjusted to issues of increasing independence and self-reliance in this age range?  How do you think your child’s friendships and romantic relationships might be going?  How do you anticipate being included in your child’s life?
  2. How has your child adjusted to typical adolescent, emerging adulthood issues such as risk-taking, drugs, alcohol, and sexual interests, and how have you responded to your teen?  Were there times when you were worried about her/his health/safety?  Did you have concerns about peers your child was interacting with or decisions that were being made?  How did you deal with these experiences?  How did your child respond?  How is your child similar to you?  How is s/he different?  What do these similarities and differences mean for how you’ve engaged with your child over time?
  3. What are the physical changes that occur for your child during these developmental periods?  What habits have become established for your child? What are challenges to supporting positive and healthy habits that you might have encountered?  As your child begins to develop her/his independence, how do you continue to engage with her/him to support positive growth? How is your child similar to you?  How is s/he different?  What do these similarities and differences mean for how you’ve engaged with your child over time?
