Instructional Management Plan

[WLOs: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6] [CLOs: 1, 2, 3]

An instructional management plan is called differently depending on the field: In K-12 settings it is called a classroom management plan; in corporate settings, project or training plan; and in in the military, training rules of engagement. Whether it be the classroom, the corporate training room, or military training field, all successful settings will utilize an instructional management plan.

Prepare

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, read Chapters 4, 5, and 6 of Teaching and Learning (Newman, 2019). You can also review the recommended resources to help you prepare for this assignment.

Reflect

From your current or desired educational career (i.e., public or private, nonprofit or proprietary, military, corporate or other), reflect on the following as you consider your instructional management plan:

  • The goal of the plan and your training audience.
  • Rules and expectations.
  • Role of the learner in the instructional setting.
  • Your role in the instructional setting.
  • An implementation plan (how this plan might be implemented).
  • A visual representation of the instructional setting (i.e., how it will look).

Content Instructions

Compose your paper using APA Style and third-person language. For assistance, you may review the resource First vs. Third Person. (Links to an external site.) Your plan should demonstrate your ability to create a climate that is conducive to learning and establish high expectations for learning. In your paper,

  • Explain the goal of the plan and the targeted audience.
    • The goal should reflect a personal statement about your views and beliefs of how to manage an instructional setting based on your targeted audience.
  • Generate a set of rules and expectations.
    • See Chapter 4 and 4.5 in the Newman text to help you formulate your rules and expectations. Remember, when it comes to rules, less is more.
  • Summarize the role learners have in the instructional setting.
    • Consider how your learners will be involved in the instructional setting; for example, what might be some of their assignment responsibilities or procedures they must follow.
  • Summarize the role you play in the instructional setting.
    • Will your instructional setting favor one that is more instructor-centered or learner-centered?
  • Describe two to three strategies that will be used to engage and motivate learners.
    • Analyze how these strategies would be effective using the theories described in Chapter 5 of the Newman text.
  • Create an implementation plan that describes how your instructional management plan will be implemented in the instructional setting.
    • Discuss the procedures that you would put into place to introduce your rules and expectations for your instructional setting.
  • Explain how your system of collaboration helps with the successful implementation of your instructional management plan.
    • Refer back to your discussion this week to show the connection between your system of collaboration and how it will aid in the implementation of your instructional management plan. How will you work with students and your students work with their peers?
  • Construct a visual representation of the physical arrangement of the instructional setting.
  • In your conclusion, be sure to summarize how your instructional management plan might be used in your future work and educational endeavors.

Be sure to support your position with one scholarly and/or credible source, in addition to the No Excuses University (Lopez, 2013), and the Teaching and Learning (Newman, 2019) textbooks (for a total of at least three cited references).
