Scenario: You are an administrative intern in a nursing facility. The administrator is conducting a management study to investigate organizational factors associated with certified nursing assistant (CNA) job satisfaction in this facility. As part of the initial steps in the research process, she is developing “a literature review to provide background and context for the research” (R&V, 2022, p. 630).
Your part in this management study is to develop an
annotated bibliography of peer-reviewed journal articles that discuss selected organizational factors that are associated with CNA job satisfaction in nursing facilities. In particular, she wants you to find articles that discuss how the independent variables of organizational culture, culture change, and a focus on person-centered care relate to the dependent variable of CNA job satisfaction.
Tasks (3):
1. Perform an article search based on keywords found in the research objective for the annotated bibliography. Identify five relevant peer-reviewed journal articles to be used in the annotated bibliography. (In your search, use the databases available
https://clayton.libguides.com/
Do not use Google Scholar.)
2. Your annotated bibliography must contain:
heading of: Annotated Bibliography (centered at the top of the page)
an APA style reference for each article of the five relevant peer-reviewed research articles on organizational factors associated with CNA job satisfaction in nursing facilities that you have identified in your search process. Be sure to note the particular factors that have been assigned. (The relevance of each article will be assessed.)
o (See Marek, P. (2010). The basics of scientific writing in APA style or Purdue Owl APA style Reference List for how to format references.) https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/reference_list_articles_in_periodicals.html
the author prepared abstracts for each article included in the review. Each abstract is included directly below each article’s reference information.
Be sure that the Annotated Bibliography reference list is organized alphabetically by first author per APA style.
3. After the last entry in the annotated bibliography, you must also provide a summary of the article search process.
Article Search Process Summary
The Article Search Process Summary will contain a written response to the following questions regarding the search process. (Answer the questions below and include after the last entry in the annotated bibliography as the last page in your document. Number each question and include the question with your answer, using complete sentences in your response.)
1. What databases did you search and why?
Be specific on which databases that you used,
don’t just say Galileo.
(Use the databases available through
https://clayton.libguides.com/
Do not use Google Scholar.)
2. What inclusion and exclusion criteria did you use? E.g., date range, type of sources, e.g., peer-reviewed journal
3. What key terms did you use for your search? How did you select the key terms you used for your search?
4. How did you reduce the number of articles to your top 5?
5. Why is it important to know the difference between your research question/objectives and the research questions/objectives from the articles?
Example of an entry in the Annotated Bibliography section:
Kinjerski, V., & Skrypnek, B. J. (2008). The promise of spirit at work: Increasing job satisfaction and organizational commitment and reducing turnover and absenteeism in long-term care. Journal of Gerontological Nursing, 34(10), 17-25.
Abstract (This is the author-provided abstract from the article. DO NOT rewrite.)
The effectiveness of a spirit at work program in long-term care was evaluated using a quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest design. These findings, along with focus group results, provide strong support that the program increased spirit at work, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and organizational culture (particularly teamwork and morale), leading to a reduction in turnover and absenteeism—two major concerns in the long-term care sector. This study suggests that implementation of a spirit at work program is a relatively inexpensive way to enhance the work satisfaction of employees, increase their commitment to the organization (thus reducing turnover and absenteeism), and ultimately improve the quality of resident care.
