You are the director of a child care facility for children ages 3 to 5. As part of staff development night, you are going to create a PowerPoint presentation to educate your staff on three common disabilities among young children with special needs. You will also discuss the importance of family involvement in children with special needs and how your staff members can partner with parents to facilitate family involvement in your center. In your presentation, you will want to use multiple examples to illustrate knowledge of the culture and characteristics of the families and children with special needs. You should be able to describe how children with special needs will function or behave in the school setting. You should also take into consideration the child’s family traditions and culture.

It is encouraged you follow the format of the template to ensure you include all components. • Give an example of teaching a social skill to a child with special needss and explain the steps involved
• Explain how to work with a family using culturally sensitive practices to generalize the skill between home and school (See the “Defining Appropriate Social Skills” passage in Chapter 15)

• Outline three key ideas that summarize the main points of your presentation
• Your final thoughts should justify why this information is important in serving the needs of the child with special needs

Requirements for this Assignment

Present the required information from above in a presentation format incorporating a written component in the speaker notes section where indicated. Format your presentation with the following in mind:

• Use correct APA formatting and citations.
• Presentations are visual. Do not put too much information on one slide.
• Images and diagrams are wonderful presentation tools, but be sure to include all required citation information for images and diagrams.

Remember, it is important that your presentation section on learning style is personal, easy-to-follow, and well organized. Follow these guidelines to further engage the presentation audience:

• Use clear, concise bullet points.
• Avoid crowded slides. You want your audience listening to your presentation, not reading all the material.
• Share your enthusiasm and interest in the subject matter.
• Relate the material back to your personal experience when possible.
• Read the presentation out loud to yourself before you begin your narration.
• At the end of the presentation, cite the sources you used to complete it.
