Week 8 | Discussion – Living the Story
Listening to the Charles Ives: Psalm 90 causes me to reflect upon Psalm 90:17”, establish thou the work of our hand? While listening to the song and reading the scripture, it makes me feel like no mater what, God is always watching. I even referenced Genesis 28:15, “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you. While God is always watching, he also put us on this earth to do his work. Adam and Eve were created as Gods partners to bring more goodness to the world.
What does this mean for you individually, and for the wider Christian church? I refer to verse 16, “16 Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.” One of the most important covenants God made was with the Israelites, Abraham’s descendants through his son Isaac and grandson. The covenant between God and Israel is love. God loved Israel.” Even if God’s promises may not immediately fulfilled, he does keep his promises.

I found listening to the music from Charles Ives while reading Psalm 90 gave me a chance to really reflect on what God wants from us and how He wants us to live out His word. Looking back on the course and what we learned I believe God wants us to live out His word. The way others see us and see how we live is a reflection on our faith and our God. God was faithful to the Israelites even in their sin. He was forgiving and loving. I believe for me personally God wants me to be a reflection of Him where I live and work. He wants people to know what it is like to be a Christian. I think it os a the same for the church as a whole. We need to trust in Him. He will provide and take care of us. We need to keep a strong faith and His work should be shown through the way we live as Christians. I have gained a new understanding of the old testament in this course and I hope I am a better person for the insights gained from the readings and discussions.
Living the Story
How does listening to “Charles Ives: Psalm 90” cause you to reflect upon Psalm 90:17, “establish thou the work of our hands”? This is Moses prayer explaining how important God’s hands are I think. In church I was shown that using our hands to praise God is a way for to use help other people. Thinking back on the course, on Exodus and Deuteronomy, and on Moses’ prayer in Psalm 90, what does it mean for God to establish the work of our hands? God uses our hands so that we may do as he wishes and Moses did. God uses us to learn and do many things I feel that all things happen for a reason and God is making such things happen. What does this mean for you individually, and for the wider Christian church? This means is the God uses the Christian Church for us to praise him and do his good will.
