The research I intend to complete is in regards to the difficulties with clinical nurses/educators in clinical education. I believe this research is much needed in order to find alternative solutions to the difficulties of this problem. Many nurses are reporting burnout and lower levels of job satisfaction (Sarmiento et. al., 2004). This unfortunately, in turn is causing a shortage in educators. My goal is to find solutions to there being better educated nurses who join the world of education upon graduation. Key people involved in my research will be clinical educators, clinical nurses, and nursing students. The results found will directly affect them, by hopefully aiding them to find some ease, not burn out so easily and encourage students to stick with nursing and find a path through education.

Research Topic: Will the implementation of a simulated electronic health record in a pre-licensure nursing education amongst undergraduate nursing students improve their skills on electronic documentation during the course of their nursing program.

Technology has radically transformed that healthcare industry. The introduction of electronic health records (EHR) to the profession has allowed  patient information to be stored on an online database with files containing medical history, medication orders, vital signs, laboratory results, radiology reports, and physician and nurse notes (Campanella, 2016). Nurses and other healthcare providers are now expected to have the knowledge to navigate EHR and properly chart when it comes to caring for their patient. However, not all nursing undergraduate schools have an emphasis on EHR use in their curricula, and it causes a transition gap when these new graduate nurses enter the clinical environment. If my research study can prove implementation of EHR training into nursing programs increases documentation skill, then we can push for implementation in all nursing undergraduate programs. 

I would try to implement change in my local undergraduate nursing program and have discussions with key individuals who can help implement change. Talking to administration and those who write curriculum is a good start. If this change were to go into effect, then this would affect both students and faculty. Students would have to learn more on EHR use while faculty would have to teach it. However, change is good. The field is an evolving one and we must learn to adapt to change.
