question 1
On January 11, 2001, the New York Times wrote, “The company’s Chrysler division, which lost United States market share in 2000 to foreign competitors because of its aging products, is expected to post a loss of $1.25 billion in the fourth quarter after a third-quarter loss of $512 million.”
Source: New York Times
Based on your own research, how has each organization’s and each country’s cultural factors led to the low performance in the Chrysler division? How have their actions resulted in dissolution of the merger? How do you think Daimler’s HRL could have done a better job of conducting due diligence about the two companies’ cultural differences across Atlantic to make sure each division was successful?

section 9
another project
HRIS is a set of interrelated processes. Your project is to present three processes of an HRIS Implementation Plan in a middle-sized company in a way that supports the company’s decision making, coordination, and control. Your HRIS Implementation Plan will focus on the following three processes: (1) maintain employee records, (2) track employee job performance, and (3) support training and career development.
Your final project is due in Module 6. There will be individual assignments along the way. The assignment and the module they are due are noted in bold on the time line below. As you can see, your first assignment “Introduction and Objectives” is due this module.
Module |
Assignment |
02 |
Introduction to the Project |
03 |
Process 1 – Maintain Employee Records |
04 |
Process 2 – Track Employee Performance |
05 |
Process 3 – Support Training and Career Development |
06 |
Final Project and Assessment |
Develop the three processes of your HRIS implementation as outlined in the time line. (Write at least 2-3 pages on each process with a page for research references.) By Module 6, submit all your assignments as the core of a larger HRIS Implementation Plan. Include research sources at the end of each section, but then compile them into one References page at the end of the completed paper.
As you write, keep the following points in mind:
Each assignment leading up to the final project is evaluated and graded independently. Your instructor will provide specific grading criteria for each step of the project prior to its due date.
each part now needs its own word document
part 1
Introduction to the Project |
The first task in your project is to write and submit your introduction and main objectives for your project on HRIS system implementation. You should complete this assignment as if you were writing to the members of the upper management of a middle-sized company. Write both of these in one Word document. Follow these steps:
Note: The Introduction should be designed to attract the attention of your readers (upper management) and give them an idea of the essay’s focus. Begin with an attention grabber. A few sentences explaining your topic in general terms can lead the reader gently to your thesis. Each sentence should become gradually more specific, until you reach your thesis.
part 2
Process 1 – Maintain Employee Records |
It’s time to turn in the first 2 page section (plus references) of your project. Your task is to turn in your completed section on Process 1 – Maintain Employee Records. Remember, this is a core process for HRIS implementation in a midsized company that supports the company’s decision making, coordination, and control.
The following notes (from your outline) should help guide your work. They illustrate some typical actions in the client HRIS implementation plan that relate to Process 1.
A. Cleanse data – Present your ideas here to implement this step of the process. For example, you could circulate a blank form and ask employees to complete it, or print out what you have on them and ask them to correct or add information. Providing a sample questionnaire is one possibility here.
B. Create Test Environment for Application – Present your ideas here to implement this step of the process. For example, the IT / ICT department sets this up, generally by allocating a server and loading a copy of the application on to it, ready for data entry. Provide further details on how you would do this.
C. Employee Numbers – Present your ideas here to implement this step of the process. For example, don’t you want to ensure that the new application can carry the sequences that you use? If you have a historical set of employee numbers, it can be a good opportunity to start from scratch. Here you may try a simple flow chart depicting your sequence.
D. Configure Employee Records Around Organizational Structure – Present your ideas here to implement this step of the process. Recommended action may be to replicate the organization structure on the basis of the specific documents used by various departments. Not only does it make the maintaining of employee records understandable across the organization, but it also facilitates the smooth export of information to other applications.
part 3
Track Employee Performance |
It’s time to turn in the second 2-3 page section (plus references) of your project! Your task is to turn in your completed section on Process 2 – Track Employee Job Performance. Remember, this is a core process for HRIS implementation in a midsized company that supports the company’s decision making, coordination, and control.
The following notes (from your outline) should help guide your work. They illustrate some typical actions in the client HRIS implementation plan that relate to Process 2.
Process 2 – Track Employee Job Performance
A. Evaluate employees more quickly and efficiently –
Present your ideas here to implement this step of the process. For example, you could evaluate the specific job-related competencies of the individual. This is important in the determination of pay increases, promotional decisions, training opportunities, and dismissal decisions.
B. Create uniform system for employee assessment –
Present your ideas here to implement this step of the process. For example, require and document management and employee involvement at different levels of interaction. An informal and formal procedure will reduce the paperwork needed to realize the value gained in these sessions.
part 4
Process 3 – Support Training and Career Development |
It’s time to turn in the third 2 page section (plus references) of your project. Your task is to turn in your completed section on Process 3 – Support Training and Career Development. Remember, this is a core process for HRIS implementation in a midsized company that that supports the company’s decision making, coordination, and control.
The following notes (from your outline) should help guide your work. They illustrate some typical actions in the client HRIS implementation plan that relate to Process 3.
Process 3 – Support Training and Career Development
A. Training requirements – Present your ideas here to implement this step of the process. For example, you could identify all the sources of costs. Some companies fail to recognize the cost of transitioning large numbers of employees out of the system. We should take inventory of the finance, operations, marketing, and information systems, as well as HR.
B. Career Development – Present your ideas here to implement this step of the process. For example, you could focus on internal development with respect to exclusive talent management of the identified individuals. The training investment must be focused on the quality of training.
C. Desired Outcomes – Present your ideas here to implement this step of the process. For example, you could set goals for the coming year that are expected of a fully job-knowledgeable employee. This will develop common standards for employees with identical job titles.
part 5
Final Project and Assessment |
Thank you for your hard work! It is now time to turn in your final project. Before you do, remember to write your conclusion. Follow these steps.
Step 1: For your conclusion, write a comprehensive 2-3-page reflection on how the three processes contribute to an effective HRIS implementation in a middle-sized company in a way that supports HR decision making, coordination, and control. Your conclusion should also gather insights from your discussions in Modules 02 to 05 and analyze why and how various risk factors might jeopardize the process and how the risks might be overcome with what consequences. Incorporate your conclusion into the completed project.
Step 2: Compile your introduction with your three main sections on the three processes and the conclusion into one unified paper. Make sure your project follows your outline from the Project Introduction. (If you changed your outline significantly, please include it in your final submission here.) Submit your final project.
section 10
In this assignment, write a memo to your senior management about the need to move from a paper system to a digital database. You may choose any available database, but you will also need to justify the cost. Your memo should details the benefits gained from electronic versus paper processes. Use your textbook and other available resources in the school library and on the internet.
Your assignment should be 2-3 pages, in APA format, and should include correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage.
section 11
If the only constant in the universe is “change,” then the world we are trying to change will require constant work on our part. (We will always have a career!) Change management is effectively implemented with talent management to reach the desired future vision. The whole purpose of HRIS is to integrate diverse processes in a coherent whole for HRIS success. Therefore, how do we present that concept to Grace who is convinced the new system will take away her position at the company? Her mentality mirrors the value, “If it ain’t broke – why fix it?”
How might the Implementation team approach Grace and others to obtain favorable responses? Please write a brief formal memorandum addressing this scenario.
section 12
