All educators face challenges when creating inclusive learning environments. For this discussion, you will explore some challenges and strategies in your professional context. If you are currently not working in an educational setting and find it difficult to speak from experience, this is a good time to ask questions and learn from your colleagues. You may modify the following prompts accordingly. It will also be helpful to review the KWL chart that you prepared earlier in the course.

• First, describe the professional setting in which you work or are preparing to work. What is your role? What diversity do you experience there?
• Identify at least two key issues or challenges you have experienced or expect to experience in working with students from diverse backgrounds. Why do you think they occurred?
• Describe the strategies you have used to address the challenges you have experienced. Why did you choose those strategies? How effective were they? Would you address the challenges differently, knowing what you know now?

After responding to the discussion prompt, pose a question or raise an issue that interests you. This is meant to engage your peers and let them know how they can best support you.
