1.  Breves dies hominis” by Pérotinus

The excerpt I chose was “Breves dies hominis” by Pérotinus. This music made me feel relaxed and calm. It made me feel that way because it made me want to close my eyes and just listen to the music and forget what was going on around me. The mood of the music was meditative. It puts me in a place where I want to just sit back and relax. I could probably listen to this type of music when I am having a bad day because of how relaxing it was. The way I would move my body to this music would be slow, and effortlessly because I would be able to let the music flow through my body and follow the rhythm that goes with it. The type of facial expression I would associate with this certain type of music would be a neutral facial expression. Although I have never really listened to this type of music it was quite intriguing. Slow rhythms induce peace and serenity, while wind instruments stand out for causing a lively, lively and comforting effect. I think that the vast majority, if not to say that happens to everyone. The first time I listen to a song it reminds you of something in particular, the rest of the time the listeners remind me of the same thing. I never in people, but in things or in past situations. While listening to this I saw the images of waves crash by note in a scene of eternal paradise.

2.  O Magnum Mysterium” By Gabrieli

The piece that I have chosen to listen to was O Magnum Mysterium By Gabrieli. As soon as I saw this beautiful piece listed to talk about I could not wait to write about it! I myself have come in contact with this piece of music twice in my musical career once was with a trumpet ensemble during my last year in high school and the other time was a college choir I saw live singing it.

I tend to always get a bitter sweet mood from this piece of music. I believe it is to represent about the joys in living a whole life but that in reality all life must come to an end at some point. At the beginning of the of the piece it starts off very soft but then is just followed by a strain of beautiful chords basically through out the rest of the song. I also feel that the beginning always makes me smile and think about how life is so valuable and precious. As the piece progresses in time the dynamics of the music are not so soft anymore. At the end the sounds from whether it be the brass roaring the melody in a wind ensemble or a full choir pouring their hearts out while singing with such emotion can not help but make you cry like a baby. I can honestly say I have never been able to listen to this whole piece without tearing up.

In conclusion O Magnum Mysterium will always have a special place in my heart and I would encourage anybody on here in this class to check this piece out and see how you can emotionally connect with it.
